Its convenient saying "We want to be anonymous. But if you understand why we say so, you may appreciate our stance.
Some time back we (a few of the core group of “krishbhavara”) started to think of what’s wrong with this hype about information Tech. It is supposed to make our lives easier, more comfortable …. . But what is wrong we don’t see that drastic change in the way we do things. The only fancy difference we see is that we see the use (or rather presence because we are not sure about their use even though they are present) of computers everywhere.
With the advent of this information technology, education has become costly what with all the hype about using various tech gadgets in the process of
education. But the ground reality is that there has rather been no improvement in the process of education. What we use to think was hard a couple of decades back has now become still harder. A different type of learning methodology has
creped into our learning process. Accepting everything as "IT IS SO", we do not know the reason and we should accept and learn that it is so. This ideology has its roots
in learning computing.
We ⇒ a few of us with a like minded thought process.
Yes, we have to accept that information is power. But, we also have to accept that information is only a tool. A powerful tool to enable you to achieve the ends you are after. Bare information is of no use. It is just like being very rich and not being able to have a sumptuous meal. Information needs to be arranged in a way that we need it, to make it a really powerful one. It needs to be arranged in that best way which would enable you to take the best possible decision within the limits of the parameters that influence your decision.
Take a simple example:
Say you want to do a course. You are not good at math. The course contains mathematics as a subject. You just refrain from wanting to do the course on hearing that the course has math as a subject.
This may not be the decision you take if you go through the math syllabus in the course since it is only of fundamental level and many of the topics seem to be familiar to you.
See the difference in your decision, with or without the information relating to the syllabus.
You are taking a decision which influences your total life without being informed.
Yes, we have to accept that using computers in education will help a lot. Using computers does not mean putting the content in the text book in something called educational software and seeing it on a computer. It involves using the computer as a tool by the teacher as well as the student. It involves generating innumerable number of helpful supplements for the process of learning.
With the advent of internet it is possible for many to make use of the content that is made by a few. We still feel that there is a defect in the learning process being followed now. Students do not need these many hours of forced study for learning the content that is set in their syllabi. What this needs is content that would be helpful in their learning processes and that would be economical for use.
We respect the Free and Open Source movements in computing software industry. Therefore we are in the process of building up a free resource that can be accessed using the internet. This is a resources which is made by collective efforts involving people who are in the remotest parts and who can do things creatively, thereby creating an ease in the learning process. Hope we could do something which can reduce the cost of accessing the internet!!!.
This is where we thought we could play a role. This small effort is one of those.
